catwalk cats

Sundaaay, oh how I love you. On the menu for today: some reading and later watch this movie. But first a big cup of coffee and going trough this book I finally bought for meself: Catwalk Cats. The book tells the story of 20 years in the life of American Vogue's creative director Grace Coddington: the fashion industry, living with hair stylist Didier Malige and a bunch of cats. (I have one of my cats on my lap as I'm writing this)

to paint is to love again

And no one knows and understands love, in every context, like Henry Miller does..

Saki

long time , no blogging.. it's been very busy and very quiet at the same time lately.
today the sun was shining and i took the time to go for a coffee,
book- & vintage shopping, a visit to the library and garden of the University..
wish i could just take strolls like this every day.

never judge a book by its cover they say, but that's the only reason i bought this one.
Love at first sight. I read a few pages and guess what, it's good!

sputnik sweetheart

i read a lot of books, but until this day 'South of the border, west of the sun' and 'Sputnik Sweetheart' of Haruki Murakami remain my 2 alltime favorites. Murakami has a way to create a world and characters that are both realistic and poetic. His stories flirt with reality and fantasy. I can read these books over and over again, it touches me every time.
ofcourse there are still other books i loved 'Bonjour Tristesse' and 'The unbearable lightness of being'
But Murakami is very different..

actual air

My boyfriend got me this poetry book of David Berman of Silver Jews. The poems are so beautiful and honest, i can't stop reading them over and over again. David Berman only recently decided to stop with Silver Jews, shame 'cause I really love their music. I hope he'll be writing more nice books like this instead.

'I remember the night we camped out and I heard her whisper 'think of me as a place' from her sleeping bag with the centaur print'

catcher in the rye

“I hope to hell that when I do die somebody has the sense to just dump me in the river or something. Anything except sticking me in a goddam cemetary. People coming and putting a bunch of flowers on your stomach on Sunday, and all that crap. Who wants flowers when you're dead? Nobody.” (Salinger)

J.D. Salinger, writer of one of my favorite books "Franny & Zooey",
died today at the age of 91. he started writing short stories for the New Yorker Magazine
right after WO II and is mostly famous for his novel "The Catcher in the Rye",
a book that influenced a lot of readers. just like the protagonist of this book, Holden Caulfield,
Salinger was more and more alienating from the phony society.
When in december 1980 a copy of "The Catcher in the Rye" is found in the pocket of John Lennon's assassinator Mark David Chapman, with "To Holden Caulfield. From Holden Caulfield. this is my statement" written inside (Chapman claims John Lennon is a phony for giving up on the Beatles, because of Yoko Ono), the impact on Salinger is huge, he feels partially responsible for influencing Chapman and becomes even more reclusive. he will live withdrawn from society till his death. Franny & Zooey is a masterpiece to me. With great characters who, both in different ways, represent 'the unbearable lightness of being' middle class americans. just like Hemingway, the world to Salinger exists out of enemies and allies.
