THE AWAKENING OF A SLEEPING BEAUTY

Elsa Schiaparelli was an Italian fashion designer. Along with Coco Chanel, her greatest rival, she is regarded as one of the most prominent figures in fashion between the two World Wars. Starting with knitwear, Schiaparelli's designs were heavily influenced by Surrealists like her collaborators Salvador Dalí and Alberto Giacometti. Her clients included the heiress Daisy Fellowes and actress Mae West.
Schiaparelli did not adapt to the changes in fashion following World War II and her business closed in 1954.

Today, the legacy of this fashion icon, is ready for a resurrection, at the same time the retrospective of her work is showing at the MET, New York. It's Diego Della Valle of the TOD's group who decided to bring the Schiaparelli brand back to life and everything it stands for: shocking pink, baroque cuts, printed "press clippings" so distinctive blithely resumed by many of her admirers, including Jean Paul Gaultier and John Galliano. In short, a true fashion house awakens from a deep sleep. And now the speculation is rife to name the new artistic director of the brand. A name that will be unveiled in October. We will have to wait until March 2013 to discover the first creations. Some brave fashion fortune tellers already mentioned John Galliano to this post but for now only one name is official, Farida Khelfa, the muse of Jean Paul Gaultier, was already appointed ambassador of the brand.
